IL CONTESTO
Un Souffle Dans Le Bleu is a painting course set between land and sea: the infinite blue of the Mediterranean stretching before us, while behind, the rugged red rock of the extinct Estérel volcanoes and the soft pinks and whites of the Maritime Alps form a dramatic contrast. The curved, flowing lines of the waves inspire soft and fluid brushstrokes, while the jagged, angular edges of the rock demand a steady hand and swift, decisive movements of the brush.
In the enchanting medieval village of Saint Paul de Vence, we will experience a true artistic immersion in the very place that once sheltered many avant-garde painters between the two world wars—Picasso, Signac, Matisse, and Chagall (who is buried here). These artists, along with many others, made this town their home, transforming its weavers', cobblers', and saddlers' workshops into studios and art galleries. Shortly after World War II, Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, art dealers and publishers, decided to establish a foundation that would support and fund artists, while also building an extraordinary collection of contemporary art featuring works by Georges Braque, Joan Miró, and Alberto Giacometti, among others.
What makes this small, colourful, and picturesque corner of France truly unique is its extraordinary light, which offers artists the best possible conditions for working with illumination and space, allowing them to perceive colour with greater intensity and vibrancy.
IL CORSO
The programme consists of a comprehensive 36-hour painting course, guiding participants step by step through the creation of an oil painting—from the initial priming of the canvas to the final application of varnish. To ensure a solid and enriching learning experience, each day includes in-depth yet enjoyable lessons in drawing, painting, and pigment preparation and study. These sessions will take place either in the lush garden of the villa or in carefully selected, inspiring locations such as the Exotic Garden of Eze, the Cap-Ferrat headland, the Fine Arts Gallery in Nice, or the breathtakingly secluded village of Gourdon.
To complement the week and make this holiday truly complete and unforgettable, a series of stimulating activities are included: excursions to ancient villages, visits to galleries and museums, and meetings with artists, collectors, and local gallery owners.
